Since you have to buy it by the 20th, email Amazon first and ask if they will honor the (the rebate) if they ship it later than the 20th. I did it once and they said they would (and they did).

it shouldn't matter if they ship it after the 20th b/c the your receipt will say which day you placed your order. Furthermore, the rebate postmark is 4/20/2005, so it gives you a month after the expiration date to send it in.
 
BTW, I've never owned a Seagate HD before, always been Maxtor or WD.

I know seagate is very comparable to those two...so what are other ppl's take on this? I'm pretty close to buying one since it has that 5 year warranty which is insanely sweet.

I have only seagate drives, IMO their more reliable and quieter. Never had one fail yet, I've owned 8 seagates.

exactly. i've had all three (maxtor, wd, and seagate), and the seagate are absolutely silent. all the wd's i ever owned had an incredibly annoying high-pitched whine. needless to say i don't have any of them any more! maxtor is a mixed bag - sometimes they're quiet and sometimes not. performance is on similar across all three for standard pata or sata drives. i'll only be buying seagate from now on.

ps i did have one seagate die, and one maxtor. both companies were quick to replace the failing drive, but seagates shipping requirements for returning the bad drive are a hassle - keep all the original packaging!

Okay, I just have to insert a comment here:

I work at a computer shop. I would say 80 - 90% of the failed drives we go through are Maxtor. Getting a warranty replacement is no problem with them, but I would rather not HAVE to use the warranty in the first place. I swear by Seagate and Western Digital.

once you go seagate you never go back. i have had computer with maxtors and WD and they are prone to dying and are loud. seagates are the only hdd's i use now (and i have 7 of them running in various computer in my house).
 
I've had bad luck with Maxtor. All three failed. My 2 seagates have given me no trouble and are nice and quiet.

Same, I had 2 WD drives died on me within the past 6 months. Nothing but Seagate from here on out.
