Yeah, I was hoping for a 7200.9, but it turned out to be a 7200.8. Bummer, but hopefully it works fine (the 10% reliability score at storagereview makes me wary, though...seeing as how it will be paired up with an apparently already failing Hitachi SATA; doesn't leave me with a lot of options for backing up to either drive, lol, but at least it's just a gaming rig).

does anyone have hte thanksgiving date rebates for this drive? I had it printed, but they took so long to ship the driv ei think i threw it away. The drive arrives tomorrow and if i cant find the rebates i'm just going to send it back.

I'm looking for the 50 dollar and the 10 dollar rebates issued on thanksgiving.

any help would be appreciated.

just for future reference if anyone comes across this thread, the 300GB pata w/ 16mb buffer is not a 7200.9 but in fact a 7200.8. I am pissed about that, although the drive is working fine. I wish seagate's website was more clear about their retail kit specs, because the only one listed in their baracuda specs with 16mb are the .9 series.

But it is back in stock with the same rebate if anyone wants a .8

The drive in the link has an 8MB buffer, so are you describing the same drive as is currently available? I ordered last night while the rebate was still good, but if the drive is truly going to fail rather quickly I might wish to cancel my order.

the shenanigans begin, rebates being rejected for hitachi

Shenanigans also happening on the 300 GB 8MB.
Got a postcard today from the rebate center. Says the UPC code doesn't match the required code. Called them, they'll "research" it and get back to me.

Christmas is coming too.

Outpost is their usual customer no-service act also.

Any one else getting this problem?

Yurgis

Hmmm....trying to decide if I keep the order open or cancel it rather than deal with the problem. I'm trying to build a media server and anything greater than 250 GB and under $.30 a GB would be outstanding.
