Seagate 250 GB 7200.8 at Monarch Computer

I *think* that Hitachi drive and the Seagate 7200.8 are the same generation.

The Seagate has a 5-yr warranty vs the 1-yr warranty of the Hitachi, which has me sold on the Seagate. The Seagate is only $2 more and free shipping; with CompUSA you're almost surely going to have to pay tax, at least.

Pricewatch lists similar Maxtor/WD SATA drives in the ~$100 region too. What makes the Seagate that great of a deal? Just wondering...

5 yr warranty. It's peace of mind to some--like. me after two failed Maxtor disks. Putting a longer warranty just means that the company is that much more willing to stand behind their product as "dependable." Everyone to their own, though, of course.

Hmm, these drives don't seem to be fast fast according to AT and StorageReview's benchmarks. Apparently my 2 year old Hitachi 7K160 is as fast if not faster...

They've also the PATA version also for $102, free shipping as well.

My first deal. 🙂

They are probably so cheap because the new 7200.9s are out (which IMHO don't offer much). Was just going to get these for $120 off ewiz--with the money I just saved, I can get another drive. Can we say 5-drive RAID5?

Edit: Updated SATA drive price ($109)

And we have tons of these on-hand right now. It is a good time to be an enthusiast, with what ram and hard drives are doing pricewise nowadays. :Q

Any price reductions would be appreciated; I'd not mind ordering 5 more. 😉

I tried to work purchasing, and they even gave me list on it. 🙁

I have no reason for more hard drive space, but at that price, I can make up one.

Thanks. I just had a 160GB Maxtor IDE drive fail on me...and was almost stupid enough to go to Staples and pay $130 + tax for a 200GB IDE Maxtor. I hope I have better luck with Seagates.

I couldn't resist; pulled the trigger on 3 for my dual Xeon PE1800 that should be arriving in the next few days 😀

I need a recommendation, this drive is perfect for my needs, but I don't know PATA or SATA.

The rig in question is an nForce2 board with both IDE channels filled. Not a screamin demon system.

Do I get an expansion PATA card, do I swap out one of the 2 smaller HDs?

Or is there an PCI SATA card available? Would it make sense dollars and performance wise to get the SATA drive and a controller card?

Help? It's the wife's video editing rig for camcorder footage, she mainly just tinkers.

Great deal!!

I wonder how long it will be until prices become 1TB = 1$ 7-12 years hopefully???

Anyway, just ordered 2 PATAs. 1/2TB for 200$ isn't bad at all.

I orderd mine on the 4th and it still has not shipped. If it were newegg i'd already have it. Maybe they are OOS?

I don't think they're OOS, but they sure are taking their time. I ordered mine on the 3rd and it also hasn't shipped yet.

thats what happened with the 320gb deal too

they said they werent in stock, but were haveing trouble labeling all of them becasue of the overwhelming amount of orders.

what i did to get my order shipped out was send a very angry email stating that I would write a horrible review of monarch if tehy did not ship it out. i mean, i already gave them 7 days

shipped the next day🙂

Just emailed them. If it isn't shipped by Monday when I get off work i'm canceling and ordering from Newegg. I don't want to be mean...but with just about most place I shop online i'd already have my products.

I had an emergency situation, so I went up there and picked one up after work. Actually, I got the 250GB WD drive for $109 (WD2500JD). Tax brought it up to $116 and change, so a little more than Newegg, but I got it today. Newegg is a great shipper, but they can't beat picking it up same day. Sorry to hear they're a little slow on shipping, though.

Or go to CompUSA and get the Seagate 160Gb ATA/100 drive for ~$120 with an $80 rebate... get them to price match WalMart ($98) and you end up with 160Gb for ~$20 net.
