Mail-In Rebates: $50.00
Price After Rebates: $89.99

When the heck is Seagate going to start having 300 & 400GB internals?? I'm getting tired of buying 200's

Links are still wrong as for being a current rebate on the 200gb.

How come a few reviewers gave it a bad review saying a constant low humming noise? Is this a common problem with many recent Seagates or just the 200gb?

I have two Seagate 200s and they are the quietest drives I've ever owned. I got them this past summer so I suppose they could have changed. But if you don't have your drives mounted correctly, they can transmit a hum through the case.

The links are almost right... from the main page it takes you to a Rebate Center page for the Seagate ST3200822A-RK 200 GB ATA Internal Hard Drive, so that's right. At the bottom, it says for purchases thru 11/14 with postmark by 12/14. That's right. $50 rebate, that's right. But when you click on the link for the Seagate rebate, up still pops the one for the 160GB USB drive.

There really isn't any noticible noise. The folks at silentpcreview.com will say there is, but to the average user, it's almost silent. They have some drive comparisons at spcr that will help you decide what to buy if you need an ultra silent drive.

Basically though, the 7200.7 drives are noisier than the V and IV models, which aren't made anymore. The 80gb models have 2 platters I believe, and the 160 and larger drives have 4 or more. More platters = more noise in general.

Ya I only care about if they are quiter than 'the average HD'. Not if I can hear them at all or not. You need a frame of reference.

Still showing the wrong rebate.

I'm ready to buy this drive as soon as the rebate matches the product.

i just called amazon and they said they are now aware of the problem and will post the correct rebate form ASAP

Well seems they fixed the rebate link on the site.
Let me try to link it again
Seagate $50 rebate
Link seems to jump back and forth between the 160GB rebate and the 200GB rebate so you might have to click on it a few times.

All I see is the 160 GB rebate..no matter how many times I click on it...same thing.

Well, to answer my own question, Seagate is trying to get their 300s and 400s out there over the next two months. I grabbed some info from a storagereviews forum:

Retail prices:
300GB $199 USD
400GB $299 USD

Someone reported buying at a Best Buy B&M the 300GB Barracuda 7200.8 drive, model # ST3300831A, for $249. Ultra ATA model with an 8MB buffer.

Yes, two 200s are cheaper than one 300, but I have so many drives sitting around that I am resolving to hold out for larger ones unless I am desperate.

Could someone who has actually seen the correct rebate form save it and post it somewhere? No point buying this drive without it... weird that Amazon is having so much trouble.

I'm tempted but I just bought the 160 gig from seagate with the $50 rebate. Can I get in on this deal also or will I show up in their system as getting 2 rebates per household? Even is they allow it whats my chance of getting in a fight with them? I know I've skipped a few deals because of this question before. Anyone have either general info or specific knowledge on this deal?
Thanks, Nomad

I just received the following message from Amazon...

[Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

I apologize that the incorrect rebate is currently listed on our
website.

I have mailed the offer today to the shipping address on your
account. It should reach you within 7-10 business days. /i]

This is totally unacceptable IMO. Just change the darn link...what is so hard about that??
