Seagate 1TB Firmware upgrade

In November I purchased a 1TB Seagate 7200 and have not had any problems with it yet but I feel a need to upgrade the firmware before I do. I currently have the model ST3100340AS with the firmware SD15 which is apparently the bad one. Looking through guides / posts people have linked to the SD1A firmware but usually refer to it as the 1.5TB firmware. I wanted to make sure before I flashed it that it would work with my 1TB and i wouldn't be doing something bad. Thanks for any help given =).

That firmware doesn't work with the 1TB drive. Also, seagate refuses to admit that they have bad firmware on the 1TB drives, will not offer an update. I have one of these drives which gave problems and is now dead. I'm going to RMA it and install a WD drive in its place, essentially scrapping the seagate.

I don't have much advice, except to make sure you have a backup of what you put on that drive, and count yourself lucky you are ok thus far with it. I'm not a fan of seagate at the moment.

don't cross flash. drive breaks? replace it.
Just use redundancy (RAID1, 5, and 6) and backups to ensure your data is safe.

They just posted an update utility today, but the model it is looking for is a ST*****-300 and all the affected drives are 303 series. Seriously Seagate, where is the QA/QC team? On vacation?!

LOL yeah that's what I mean. They just really have gone downhill. Unless you're running some SAS drives, then they're some of the best.

I too ran into the same error that others have, looking for 303 series drives.

I would not try and update the firmware for the 1tb drives for now. The firmware update had bricked many drives. Check the seagate forums for more info.

I gave up on my four ST3100340ASs after one died - luckily, the one I had ripped only about 20 DVDs to. I replaced them all with WDs & sold the three functional drives on Craigslist. I used to have no real hard drive manufacturer preference, but I sure as shit do now, haha...

I can confirm the new utility posted on Seagate's website is working as it should now. I successfully flashed both of my 1TB 7200.11 drives to the SD1A firmware.

As Seagate suggests and I also suggest; back up that data before trying the flash!!!
