Seagate 160GB ST3160827AS-RK Serial ATA 8MB Buffer - Retail Hard Drive Kit $70AR+ship

This may be just what I was looking for (Seagate SATA).
I am just not sure about NCQ.

I have seen people saying that it reduces performance for home use!
Is that true?

Edit:
How are Seagate rebates?
I don't care if they do not send the check fast as long as they eventually send it!

do a search for seagate rebates. imho they are horrid. im still waiting for two from nov-dec that they decided to invalidate. seagate is becomming the new tiger direct

I could use a SATA drive, and the Seagates are great..but yeah. The rebate center is bad, really bad.

Rebates do come, but very very slowly

The Seagate rebates must of just recently gotten bad.

I've done a few of them in '04 & had no problems with them.

This year however it seems as a lot of people are not getting them or are having to jump through hoops & then wait forever to get them.

Also, SATA drives are nice for the cable routing aspect but I really don't notice much of difference between the 7200rpm SATA'a compared to the 7200 ATA 133's.

I do love Seagate drives though, especially the warranties, though I've never had to use a warranty.

I wonder if they are as bad on the warranties as they have gotten on the rebates? Anyone have any first hand experience on warranty service from Seagate?

I sent in my rebate for a Seagate 160gig last JUNE, it came a few days ago. Had I not made a call to a nice lady in Mumbai, I doubt if I ever would have gotten it.

I gotten 2 of them... seagate is delaying the rebates but you will get it none the less but you will have to call. I think the reason for the delay in the rebate is the limited amount of cash flow they put in the rebate department...

I have three Seagate drives (120gb, 160gb, 200gb) all purchased through Outpost with Rebates. One rebate came ok - the last two took a long time and required multiple phone calls and pushing to get paid. I'm not buying another one on rebate especially when the cost is $70 AR for a 160GB drive (not that great a price to me as I've picked up a number of Maxtors for that price without rebates over the last year).

Also, the 200gb seagate is the only drive that I've had corrupt data in one of my PVRs (ReplayTV) and required a reload of the operating system.

Posted this reply in response to questions in thread on drive rebates and experience.

I don't see any reference to Outpost in the rebate form!
Can I order this from somewhere else like newegg and still get the rebate?
The ground shipping at Outpost ends up being 7.50 for me.

I got this and am happy with it. It is quiet.

Can I just peel off the UPC bar code from the box and stick it on another piece of cardboard and submit instead of cutting the box?
Has anybody ever done this?

I dont think they are bad at all... I dont expect to get my check the next week after sending a rebate, I know it should take a month or two. I sent out two rebates, one on 12/17/04 and one about 1/10/05, got them both about 3 weeks ago.
