Thanks midnitetoqr!
I had ordered the 200GB IDE version from them last week, but was put on backorder. I was going to wait almost a month for it, but will happily sacrifice 40G of space for what I hope will be better speed.

This will go nice in my Poweredge 400 SC!

hmmm... rebate states "Items must be purchased through: Fry's Electronics retail stores"... is Outpost considered a retail store? Just want to make sure before dropping some cash :)

Rebate is okay. Outpost is considered a part of Frys.
Frys retail stores have the same deal going on.

I had the same question. I called the rebate place and the guy(who sounded like he didnt know what he was talking about anyways) said that the rebate wouldnt be valid for outpost if it says frys retail stores but, like I said, he sounded like he didnt know that outpost was part of frys.

I have been actually cleaning out all my PATA drives and selling them on ebay, and changing to all sata drives. Since Sata drive deals are so scarce, I think I will probably get this. We need some stores like walmart or circuitcity to start carrying SATA drives so we can get some FAR drives after pricematches. :)

I bought one of these way back in January from ZipZoomFly:

1 x (101559) Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3160827AS 160GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer ***Free 2nd Day*** @ $109.99

Excellent drive, very quiet, very fast.

I assume the big price drop is to make way for the 7200.8 Barracudas. the newer models. But there's nothing to fear, this drive is just as fast as the newer ones in most tests. See the following (this article is about the 400GB version of the Barracuda 7200.8, but they include a 120GB 7200.7 in their tests, and it does very well in the real world ones, and game level load times. I assume the 160 would perform simiilarly to the 120 that is tested:

Might as well. It has a 5 year warranty anyways.

Thanks midnite and welcome to the forums, hopefully all the seagate sata drives will be selling like this now like the ide drives have been in the past, great drives and a great deal, and outpost hasn't done me wrong yet but they do charge shipping and tax. All the rebates have come also but 2 were really slow.....

I picked one up at frys this afternoon in san diego, CA. Many many left. They also have a wd 120gb for $20 AR. That isnt that great of a deal though, considering you can get WD 160 gb's lately for like $5AR at CC or $20 AR at bestbuy.
