Seagate 160GB drive has been working fine. However, be prepared to fight in order to get your rebate - and willing to wait 4+ months. Parago/Outpost/Seagate has been troublesome to work with on rebates. Look at the rebate thread.

With that warning given, I have been pleased with my Seagate drives and have eventually received all rebates.

I can confirm that they try evet possible way to refuse to pay the rebate on this Seagate drive. Use caution and DON'T BUY IT if you are counting on the rebate being paid.

I mailed in rebate (from Los Angeles to Texas) on Feb 17th ...it was confirmed received by Seagate Rebate Center on Feb 22. But it was deemed invalid due to inadequate postmark, whatever that means. The deadline for the postmark under the offer was Feb 20, but that was a Sunday which automatically makes the deadline the next date, the next day was Presidnent's Birthday legal holiday, which automatically makes the postmark deadline the next day or Feb 22nd, the day on which they acknowledge they actually received my application for rebate.

So they denied my $40 rebate for not having a proper postmark (postoffice issue, not m,ine) on or before Feb 22nd even though they actually received the rebate application on Feb 22nd. WTF

This shows the mindset of this company to try to deny rebate payments no matter how flimsy the excuse. Very bad for Seagate's reputation since they have to be held accountable for the actions of their redemption agents.

DO NOT BUY SEAGATE BASED ON REBATE BEING PAID TO YOU!!!!!!!

I have 9 rebate from seagate that came within 8 weeks. I still have 2 remaining which have been about 4 weeks. Absolutely no problems.. So I guess I shouldn't count on their rebates because you had a problem... hmm..

Seagate is often slow on the rebates. This much is clear after reading the chatter on the internet. Some people may have received them quickly, but this is not always the case.

My own experience with them is that they came though but it took a good long time. The only rebate that's worse in my opinion is Fuji.

Good luck to all. I gambled and bought a 250GB Maxtor for $100 w/o rebate. Tired of waiting.

ditto on 2 months for my last Seagate. My first one took more like 3 or 4 but ended up arriving. Still, I have paid a lot of attention to my status after reading all the negative reports that I have.

In my honest opinion dont buy anything with a mail in rebate unless your ready to live with paying the price before rebate, I treat rebates more like if i can get them to come so much the better....
