Holly cow! ScrapSilicon has found the best price I've ever seen on a large mouth Seagate and nobody gives a rats ars?! Is it possible .60 per Gb is too much or did everyone buy a WD? Man I must refrain. I just lost my job a few weeks ago. I do have a 60GB Barracuda and it's smooth runner. Wait till some of the WD and Maxtor owners time the defrags. Ear plugs? No. Set it and forget it, yes. Nice find SS.
OK, I'm the (smartars) that's back. Please, since I'm adding on to my post maybe you'll forgive my brief "off topic". I have a dual monitor video card and 2 LCD monitors I'm going to put to use. If I had an extra hard drive such as this Seagate, is it safe to say I could have monitor (a) in front of my face displaying my activity on my C:/ HD or (a) while at the same time I could be using my TV tuner/Video card output (b) running to my monitor (b) which is displaying my 2nd HD D:/ doing its recording or playback of a recording made on drive D: ??? Of course the new HD doing the video would be the Seagate! :light: Please advise & thanks!

I think this 160Gb has a 3 yr. the smaller ones have 1 year.
Check this out... What's in Store with Seagate?
30 two-hour DVD-quality movies, 120 hours of VHS-quality video, 82 days of around-the-clock MP3 audio, 30,000 high-res digital photos, 170 must-play games..
. Oh by the way... that's the 120Gb specs!

I was going to jump on it, but there's no time for me to do a reformat and Windows installation this weekend 🙁
Also my 80GB WD still has space.

This deal aint bad. However, I am very wary of CompUsa's rebates. 90% of rebates from Compusa always say they didnt receive the materials or they just dont plain come. Thats why I stopped buying from Compusa in the past 2 years! Without the rebates, Compusa is just plain expensive. However, this is tempting.....hopefully, the rebates do come, and they dont end up like Cendyne.

CPG is handling the rebate and not TCA that CompUSA normally uses so this looks like a straight up manufacturer rebate.

1yr on all seagates IIRC

I bought a bunch of WD SE drives mainly because of the 8 mb cache. I'm sick of them now though because of the whine that they develop over time. It will be nice going back to a quick drive again.

seagate is probably the quietest HD out there, but i like my WD SE drives for speed anyday. my maxtor 8mb cache HDs suck

Been waiting for this one...note that its the 8mb version of the 7200.7 - thx for the post!

Anyone know if the rebates print out in-store?

Looks like a great price 🙂 Also looks like it needs an adapter unless you already have the L-shpaed SATA power connector on your ps or the SATA controller kit.

Keep in mind that the SATA 7200.7 does not feature a traditional 4-pin molex power connector but rather requires the new L-shaped SATA power connector either incorporated on the power supply (rare) or through an adapter (found in some retail SATA controller kits).

Uh...this is a PATA drive...not a SATA drive! 🙂
