i heard that, irregardless of anything, seagate denies your rebate and waits until you call back and complain.......... they'll deny it by saying wrong purchase date or wrong upc code.... eventhough it bluntly matches what the rebate form says...

i know a lot of people have had experience with these rebates
so how long does the rebate usually take
and has anyone actually received the rebate?

I received a post card that says seagate invalidated my rebate, with no other details supplied. I checked the rebate status online and it said invalid under status.

There was a page at the web site to send a request asking for more details about the status. I received an e-mail response that said my symantec rebate was apporved and is being processed. the e-mail refenced the seagate rebate tracking number. The e-mail also had a link the symantec's rebate tracking site. There was not a single mention of seagate in the e-mail. At the seagate rebate tracking site, the status still says invalid. Something is rather messed up.

cool, but the only thing is that the rebate is seagates....so the rebate problem still exists wether you buy from compusa or frys....

I just called the rebate center and spoke to a rep.

She said that the rabates are not once per lifetime. If you look at the rebate form, every new rebate goes to a different department (mailing address). This means its a different Promotion Number. So long as the promotion number is different, you are eligible for the rebate.
I bought two of these in december and got both rebates back a little over a month ago. So Im waiting for the next 50 dollar deal to try it again.

Nevermind, I called again and in order to qualify for the rebate it has to be purchased from Fry's or Outpost.

I suffered through the Seagate rebate hassles on both the 160 and 200 GB deals last year. You call them on the phone and they tell you different things than are printed on the rebate. The reps I spoke with seemed to be of the school that the customer is always wrong. One rebate took almost a month longer than the offer said. The other they denied because they said it was not the serial number of a retail hard drive when it definately was. They ended up paying that one after a very long delay.

Definately keep copies of all your paperwork, UPC's etc when dealing with them.

I sure wish Seagate would dump their current fulfiillment house and get one that can process their rebates accurately and in a timely manner. If they keep it up they may get a court order against them like CompUSA did.

All that aside, the drive works perfectly and I'm sitting here thinking about getting another one knowing that the rebate will probably be slow and a pain. But, it will most likely get here.

After about 2-3weeks from mailing in the rebate, I got an email saying they received my submission saying its valid and being processed. I received the rebate about 4months later. There was a thread about a lawsuit against seagate because of the many complaints about seagate rebates being denied. Seagate then told the rebate processing center to mail out all submissions. I'll look for the thread,

I recieved a $50 seagate rebate not too long ago. I checked online and it said they recieved it, and I checked a little later and it said rebate check sent out. Got it a few days later, no problems. Maybe you guys have bad handwriting or something.

I have a folder called rebates with copies of everything I sent.

I have purchased a few Seagate drives with MIRs and never had any problems. My luck I guess.

I bought a Seagate 120GB from Outpost on Black Friday. It was $49 after two rebates. One came in January and one in February.

But after reading others comments maybe I dotted all the T's and crossed all the I's correctly!

seagate rebates take awhile...

I also noticed that their newer drives vibrate more than the older ones...

I have a 40gb barracuda w/ 2mb buffer and one of these. The former has next to no vibration, while with the latter I can feel the whole hard drive cage kinda rattle when I touch it.

Friend ordered that drive Friday hopefully the rebates will go through for him...I know there was a class action lawsuit against Seagate about their rebates not too long ago.

When you think about it, they are -not- offering a reduced price because they -want- to sell at that lower price:
- they prefer customers who will -not- get around to filing the rebate claims
- so it makes sense they would "try" to discourage those who -do- file rebates so those will not apply in future rebate offers!

Whatever their reasonning, I dont care. As long as I get my rebate, it doesnt matter if it takes 6 months. Money isnt depreciating at a high enough rate for me to care about them "holding" my 50 bucks for a little while.
