I think we should all recognize that 7200.8s aren't exactly hte best drives around. They are problematic (according to SR) and should be AVOIDED! I do not know about 7200.9s though

My favorite is when I call to activate windows and the operator says with an obivious Indian accent, "Thank you for calling Microsoft. My name is;" 1) Jason 2) Michael, 3) Christopher, etc.

And even better than that is when their computer system goes down and they don't have a teleprompter to read from and don't have any idea what to say. They mumble a lot and and then ask you to call back - that's reassuring.

Yeah. I activate a lot of software.

dew.

yea the 7200.7 and 7200.8 are garbage imho. I got 2 7200.7's, made in thailand, nothing but problems. So luckily I was able to exchange them for 7200.9's, which were made in singapore.

FYI an update i got an email after I sent them all the information saying to give them a few weeks to get the system updated. In the meantime, I registered for the rebate on the website and sent the items in.

Seagate recenty acquired Maxtor. Those 16MB(only maxtor manufactured 16mb drives) cache HDs are probably from the maxtor factories with less warranty.

now that seagate owns, maxtor and their only real competition is western digital i can see the hard drive industry becoming less competitive and moving back to shorter warranties.

These drives are 7200.8 drives which are last year's drives so they are not maxtor. They are 16mb cache versions however which Seagate never put on the shelves for some reason (maybe because they wanted to show the 16mb cache feature as something new for the 7200.9 line?). But they are honoring the full 5 year warranty for these.

I got a 400gb 16mb IDE. I checked the warranty and it shows that it ends Feb 2007. How can I be sure that they are going to honor the 5 year warranty?

I checked both of mine..and I didn't have to contact seagate on either...

warranty through 2011! woohoo Seagate and your sweet, sweet, 5 year warranties.

how do i tell if the PATA 300GB 16mb cache, retail kit i bought is a 7200.7 .8 or a .9?
mine makes a random click sometimes when accessing but i have no problems as of yet. Maybe i sould run the disc diagnostic utilities...I thought seagate was good drives....
