Hey, I need some input around here.

I have a Intel SE440BX2 motherboard with an ISA US Robotics 56k voice modem. the modem is an OEM one a got for about 70 bucks almost a year back. I'm running Win98SE. They just don't like each other!

The only stable speed I can connect on is 19.2K! I have tried almost everything to get a stable fast connect. I weird speeds like 33,333 or 45,333 or 36,000 or 38,666...you get the idea. Even at such speeds, the data transfer is slow. Nothing gets transferred for sometime and suddenly there is a burst of data streaming on in. I can't figure this out.

In windows, I have set it as COM2 and I disabled my second COM port in the motherboard through the BIOS. It takes an IRG of 3 and Range between 02F8-02FF (hex). The other cards I have is a CLTNT2 Ultra and a SBLive! Value OEM.

Can someone please give some pointers, software, tips anything on this!?!?1

Get a firmware update. I had an internal USR 56k winmodem and I could only connect at 26400bps or less. My ping was in the 250 - 350 range. Once I got the firmware update, my pings were lowered to around 200 - 300. My connect speed was raised to 45333bps.

Also get new drivers as well.

Ohh ya, if you already have gotten a firmware update and the stuff like that, maybe you need to call your phone company to upgrade your phone lines.

Try bringing over the modem to a friend's house who does not live near you. Test the modem at his house. If it connects better at his house than at yours, then it's your crappy phone lines that is holding you back.

If you think it's your computer that is the culprit, try bringing your friend's (or another computer) to your house. Install the modem there and connect through there. If it still connects badly, then it aint compatibility probs with the SE440BX2.

Also make sure you don't have Required to Connect in the modem's properties checked, that forces the modem to connect at a stable speed, but it hampers the speed alot.
