I have a Gigabyte GA 7ZX VIA KT133 motherboard. Can anyone tell me whether I can
use single of double sided sdram.

Single or double sided doesn't matter. The size PER SIDE is limited ... on the KT133 chipset, the limit is 256 MBytes per DIMM side. So if the DIMM is single sided, it may be no larger than 256 MBytes - and double sided ones may be 512 MBytes.

So what's with 1GB+ sticks?

I presume they are designed to be used with other chipsets that don't have this limitation?
