With WindowsME loaded, plus my communications software from Starband(satellite) & the Firewall software (ZoneAlarm) my resources are at 83%..........this is after removing all other programs from my startup menu and before opening any other programs. When I load up the Norton Anti-Virus Software the resources go down to 76%. If I open IE6 and Outlook Express, they're down to 57%. If I load up my Microsoft Suite & MS Publisher software I run at between 35% & 40% resources and suffer from screen freezes, periodic problems with Bootup and Shut down.

With 512mg of Ram and an additional 64mg from my AGP Video Card I wouldn't think I'd be having a problem with resources. Any thoughts on what might be causing this. I let Windows set my virtual memory. Any ideas on a solution aside from adding more memory?

thanks,

from what i know, winme does not do good preserving memory resources. It is one of the worst at as well as win98. I have 2 comps, one with win98se and one with w2k. My 98 would start out at 87%. But after usage, it always drop down to under 50, and even 40. WIth w2k, never. There is always enough memory to go around. If you can, try changing the OS to w2k and see if that does anything.
