SDHC memory cards problem

I've have used 2-GB SD Cards together with a USB card reader for data transfers between computers. Someone gave me an 8-GB SDHC card that wouldn't work with his digital camera. The camera was not compatible with SDHC cards. I found that my USB card reader with the 8-GB SDHC card was not recognized by any of my computers. Any one know anything about this? Thanks.
