SD vs DDR

I have an old computer, but dont have money right now to upgrade a new one. maybe, early next year. Currently, my computer has 256mb PC133 SDRAM, Radeon 8500, and Athlon 1600xp.

My question is, how large is the difference in term of speed between 1GB of PC133 and 1GB of PC2100 (percentage is appreciable)? because, their price range is quite the same. although i know DDR is faster than SD, but if there's a huge diffence.. i might wait next year for upgrade.

.....depending on what you use it for I would recommend only buying a stick of 256mb PC133 and save money. Otherwise you should buy a PC3200 (which also will run at PC2100 speeds) and save it for your next upgrade.

I play a lot of games (especially Football Manager requires a lot of RAM to play it with high detail), video editing, and do some graphics.

Not a *drastic* speed difference for most things, but not much upwards mobility with SDRAM, and not much future resale value either.

I'd try to maybe find another 256MB stick cheap and then do a full system upgrade at some point. I wouldn't sink a lot of money into a gig of SDRAM.

but most college students arent aware of that. If i put 1Gb of RAM and sell it (I'll sell this system around 400, no monitor), they will flock like sheep to buy it. maybe, I'll buy 512 + 256 SDRAM. it's cheaper rather than buy 1 stick of 1GB. or maybe, I'll just bump it to 768mb. not one gig.

You're gonna buy $100 worth of RAM to put into a system that you'll later sell for $400 total?
