I'm new here (as is obvious) and I wasn't sure which forum to put this in. I hope that I picked the right one...and please tell me if I didn't.

I finally caved in, bought a digital camera. But now I need to soup it up, most notably with more storage space. But I don't really know the differences between any of the cards, or what I should be looking for (besides more space=better). Is there really a difference in speed of recall/write involved? FYI I'm using a Nikon Coolpix4600 (yes, a camera for rookies....)

A 1 Gig SD card for 40 bucks sounds reasonable.
Here's a link to my favorite site. Never had any problems with them and they always treat me good.

So it would seem 40 dollars is a darn good deal. And I have used Buy.com before. They were good too.
 
I like the Kingmax SD card I got not too long ago. It's much speedier than my camera and it was about the cheapest I could find short of a name I'd never heard of before. Kingmax was one of the first to market hot-rod menory. Back in the day, their 60ns/1 wait state was the 'bee's knees'.

i recommend the for sale forums here, lots of people selling good cheap memory. i got a 133x 2 gig card for $100. i use it in my PDA so speed is a little more important, but there are definately diminishing returns. i believe that 133x for my work is way overkill, but it was a great deal.
 
Might I suggest the Sandisk extreme or the Sandisk ultra 2. These memory cards like the kensington elite have very high data transfer rates. Consequenlty, you will be able to store pictures faster and efficiently. I have also found on my canon SD500, with the use of the Sandisk extreme that the capture time was also noticeably faster. Nonetheless, the 1gb kensington is quite good for the price. Look around on ebay and on craigslist.com to find the best deals. Happy hunting
