I'm looking to buy a camcorder for my vacation, but I wanted something small to bring with me. Does anyone know of a camcorder that uses SD cards versus the normal tape media or MiniDV. I don't really care about editing these videos as much.

I've seen the panasonic DV-AV1000 (?) and the Xacti C5, but I don't see much else besides that.

What the hell? Bad idea unless you don't mind short 5 minute low resolution videos.

no kidding. MiniDV tapes hold 15GBs, you cant use SD cards to record onto. The only way you're gonna pull something like that off is with a Canon XL2 and a firestore drive. Make sure you get a good 3 CCD camera. And please dont be stupid and buy a camera that records directly to DVD.

Forget about it. MiniDV is the way to go. A minidv tape holds about 15 GB of video data on it, compared to a memory card that holds about 1 GB. In addition, you can get tapes for only a few dollars, compared to big bucks which memory cards cost.

The video quality of them also sucks compared to MiniDV.

I just got the Canon SD400 and was looking for a digicam that can record video. This one can record at 15, 30 or 60 frames/second. Records up to whatever SD storage you have. But like was said earlier, your videos won't be long with the limited SD storage capabilities.
