Im sure they will release a universal retention kit for it and those of you whom already own Ninja can just upgrade to AM2 with that for about 10 bucks. The current kit they sell still is for the older single chip processors which you can get at Newegg for 9 bucks.

I believe they've stated that they won't release such a kit.

That may be possible in retrospect since there is no backplate necessary. The backplate is what usually got screwed up after use.

Retail push pin mounting system on a $50+ HSF? That's just disgusting.

:Q I have the original Ninja on Giga DS3 and there is now way I would feel comfortable with push pins holding that mofo on this board....

I can't imagine them releasing a product with whatever holding system that would have the potential to fail ie fall off the cpu would be bad for their business well see though have one on order and was shipped yesterday I'll do a full review on it after mounting it on my S3 board had litttle choice as the thermalright ultra 120 is not available anywhere except ebay and they want 89.95 for it there talk about rape. It is slightly lighter than the previous model wondering if it has anything to do with the holding system? 916grams

I have no doubt that Scythe tested the new mounting mechanisms, but that still doesn't provide me as much peace of mind as a the bolt through/clip method(especially with a LAN party coming up this weekend :) ). I look forward to your feedback on the new version....:)

My understanding is, push-pins work just fine IF they're installed correctly. However, from what I've read, they're V easy to install incorrectly!

Truth be told, I HATE the mount system on my Scythe Mine [pronounced 'me nay'] -- worst system I've ever seen -- yet, this is (evidently) the mount system Scythe has decided to use on their entire product line. Go figure!

Totally agree with you on the bracket method and if indeed it looks like a problem it should'nt be too hard to rig such a system I'll keep folks posted as soon as it arrives. Not a big fan of those push through pins myself but am willing to give it a try again the assumtion scythe must have done evaluations with their new setup ie I'm sure a vibration test was performed. The Japanese tend to be very through.

wow take a breath and put another period or two in there ;)

I have a zalman 9500 and I doubt that I'll change that for awhile (would the ninja even get me more than a degree or 2 better temps really?). I figure that I'll go watercooling next instead of another air cooler. But nice to know the ninja is back in case I do end up needing another air cooler at some point. Even with the higher price it is less than I spent on my 9500.

The Mine runs just as quiet [as the Ninja] but suffers several major flaws...

Problem number one: It can?t be mounted on our zero-point system?s Asus A8N32 motherboard. The cooler?s retention mechanism for AMD systems sports two small levers that you must swing around in an arc to lock down the cooler, but one of the arms comes into contact with our mobo?s chipset cooler. When questioned about this issue, Scythe simply said this cooler will not work with this mobo.

We pointed out that the MSI K8N Diamond Plus also has a north bridge heatsink. The response? Mine will work with that board, if you?re willing to cut the locking lever.

We ended up installing the Mine on an Asus A8N Deluxe, and the fit was just fine, but the installation itself was a pain in the butt. The metal mounting levers are very small and swing within a metal groove, which makes them very difficult to secure. It?s definitely one of the worst retention methods we?ve encountered.

These faux paus are regrettable because the Mine is a fantastic cooler.

This is the same mounting system used on the Infinity, and upcoming Ninja rev. B...

*edit*

BTW, I'm old enough to know the difference between good cutlery and bad. I read that guide of yours -- very interesting -- but you haven't lived until you've owned a set of Henckels Pro S knives! I've got a fairly large collection of them, including a 7" Santoku (my favorite). Take my word on this -- German steel trumps Swedish!

Kudos on the inclusion of the V-slicer!!! I've worn out two of these -- getting ready to buy my third -- couldn't live without it!

You ought to loosen up a bit and enjoy yourself, e.g. Don't despair! Why all the rigidity, bro? ;)

Anyway, back on topic...

I wish I could crush you into something a recycling plant could take without pre-processing.

What's so good about the Pro S knives?

I just have one question. Why in hell do you have to explain to everyone hoe to promounce a name of a HSF? It's highly annoying.
