Hello all,

For those interested I have put together a simple page chonicling my e6400 build up. The heat sink will be posted there soon when it arrives. I'll do my best to describe it's installation pros and cons.

http://rainscc.com/e6400build.html

My experience from doing a test mounting of the stock cooler it is true it is easy to not get the pins locked in right. I think it was more me than the system.

I tried to do it first without reading the instructions :). You need to press with even pressure straight down untill you hear an audible click.

In my case since I have a mother board tray I can look at the underside of the board pretty easy to be sure it's latched through properly.

Agree, The mounting method is pretty easy but you have to make sure you did it right especially with the heavy coolers and the fins just add in the frustration if you've got big hands (I do). The stock intel cooler isn't that much of a problem but starting from the AC Freezer, it gave me a headache in that I had to look on the underside to make sure they really were locked, I did screw up the pins a bit but they still work (the push-pull part of it comes right off of the pin on one), than I got the Ninja with the plate at the bottom and clamps on the top, I prolly have about 10 or so scratches from trying to secure it into position (damned sharp edges). can just imagine myself with bloody hands with the push-pin mechanism in there. Plus I bought it off from a member here for 40 bones brand new. I have yet to spend over $40 on a HSF, this being the most expensive one.

One reason I really like Scythe, THEY UPDATE THEIR COMPATIBILITY REGULARLY!!!!

They are like the only one, nothing worse than seeing nothing but year old motherboards on a compatibility sheet.

I've got the Rev B. currently running.

It fits on the P5B Deluxe and the Gigabyte S3. (I had to get S3 when a bios flash killed the ASUS :( )

FYI: Antec 900 + P5B Deluxe + Ninja + side panel fan = no go. Antec 900 + S3 + side window fan + Ninja = works like it was designed for it.

The Ninja cools awesome, btw. My e6400 @ 3.2g 1.325vcore = 30c idle, 45c after 8 hours of Orthos. :)

So would everyone agree that this is a pretty good cooler to get? I've got a Zalman 9500 right now and it keeps the system below 60 with load but not too much to spare. I'd like to replace it but I want something that won't damage the motherboard (P5W DH Deluxe) and will definitely keep the temps down. Also, I don't want to waste space with a new thread, could someone provide a link that explains how to lap things yourself?

My understanding is, push-pins work just fine IF they're installed correctly. However, from what I've read, they're V easy to install incorrectly!

Truth be told, I HATE the mount system on my Scythe Mine [pronounced 'me nay'] -- worst system I've ever seen -- yet, this is (evidently) the mount system Scythe has decided to use on their entire product line. Go figure!

They work great with hand grenades......you pull the pin change your mind and push the pin back in.....

No way, Baby!

You're mine [pronounced 'm-eye-n']...

BTW, I'm old enough to know the difference between good cutlery and bad. I read that guide of yours -- very interesting -- but you haven't lived until you've owned a set of Henckels Pro S knives! I've got a fairly large collection of them, including a 7" Santoku (my favorite). Take my word on this -- German steel trumps Swedish!

Kudos on the inclusion of the V-slicer!!! I've worn out two of these -- getting ready to buy my third -- couldn't live without it!

You ought to loosen up a bit and enjoy yourself, e.g. Don't despair! Why all the rigidity, bro? ;)

Anyway, back on topic...

Heckels Pro S? Meh. I will never give up my Henckels Five Star Santoku... :D

Take me off your list! It feels creepy being on it.

Hey!! Operandi is trying to put together a new stickied HS thread, both you and JY are
being a PITA inside it already.

ROFLROFLROFL.... i disapear for 3 months and come back to see things havent changed. Anyhow, the stupid retention on C2D is utter STUPID. Its extremely hard to put the HSF on if the board if its already mounted inside the case. Either way your going to have to pull the board out to be absolutely sure you mounted it correctly.

I honestly think, if your current HSF is concidered on a "A" list, the only reasonable upgrade would be to step up to water. As for the clip retention, GAH, im glad my QX6700 is going to be a storm where its spring/bolt/backplate retention instead of clips XD

Anyway, what do you think about the Scythe SCNJ-1100P, or you just here to scold me and JY? :D

Operandi is doing a nice job, but since the SCNJ-1000 is discontinued, wouldn't this be better?

Do you think it would cause trouble if I suggested these modifications? ;)

*edit*

Reviews are gettin' kinda hard to find, for reasons mentioned in Operandi's thread!

Man, all I could find in English was that one-page postscript... :Q

Actually you should not jump to conclusions about things that don`t concern you!! Unless you are a mod on these forums also....

I have talked with Operandi and wished him good luck via PM with his project as well as offering to help if need be!!
he`s a good person and will do a real fine job keepinbg the HS thread updated!!
