Yo guys I have a dillema. I need money bad. and I have two hard drives and i think i should sell one:

9gb ultra2 scsi LVD Western digital 7200 rpm hd <-- loud as crap
100gb ATA100 7200rpm western digital hard drive

I have a adaptec ultra2 scsi host adapter (80mb/s)transfer with a lvd teminator

What hard drive is typically faster? I know the SCSI technology is better.. but geez I really cant tell.. do you guys know of any programs that test hd transfer speed and performance stuff? The hd space doesnt matter cuz i barely use even 5 gigs.. let me know guys

Kraej,

If you go to Storagereview.com, you'll find that the 120Gb WD1200JB with 8Mb cache optimized for desktop applications/games is faster than every 10,000rpm SCSI drive except for the Maxtor Atlas IV; it is bested by the >10,000rpm SCSI drives. Storagereview's real world bootup and game level load tests show that the WD1200JB and WD1200JB are significantly faster than all other 7200rpm drives, both SCSI and ATA. Of course, this is for desktop tasks like web browsing, games, and bootup speed....a number of the SCSI drives gain an advantage for server-oriented tasks.

Don't expect to get to much for the WD SCSI Drive. It's not one of the more recognize quality SCSI Drive brands. WD is more known for the Consumer Desktop Drives. Plus IBM and Seagate have been purging their inventory of older models (that are newer tech than yours) so you can actually find an IBM 36 Gig 7200 LVD SCSI Drives with a 1 year warranty for around a $100.00 at Ebay.
