SCSI scanner problems

Having trouble loading an Adpatec AHA-294OUW SCSI bios. For some inexplicable reason the bios will not load but the device works in Windows 95A (no it isn't even B version). During bootup there is a message saying that the bios has not been installed.
The device attached to the SCSI is a WIDEcom SLC836 scanner we use to scan shop drawings. At random times during the scan, the scanner will pause or hiccup and and the scan is screwed up (lines strectched or words and letters not where they should be. Can be a real pain in the a$$ especially
when everything needs to be drawn to scale).
I am guessing that the problem is either the antiquated Windows version or it is the unistalled bios.

Any ideas?

I think the SCSI BIOS installs only if there is a HD connected. Scanner difficulty might be a resource problem. I'd have the SCSI card in PCI slot 2 or 3, and make sure in device manager that it's not sharing an IRQ with any other device.

obenton is right, SCSI BIOS will install ONLY if you have HDs attached. Also try to set the SCSI bus speed at the SCSI setup screen to the 10Mhz (for narrow SCSI-2) or even lower (if it's allowable).. or you can even try async mode. and you'll need to terminate both end of SCSI chain as well, at both end (on 2940UW it's in the setup screen), on the scanner end, if the scanner didn't come with a build in terminator, you'll need to get a terminator for it.
