Ok, I have an older Adaptec (ISA) AHA-1540FC controller that I am considering using for two older matched 4.3 gig SCSI drives. However, i have the opportunity to upgrade the adapter to a PCI one (the AVA 2902E). My question is simple, what benefits , if any, would I gain from going with the 'newer' PCI AVA 2902E? Would it be just as good to stick with my current ISA solution? Thanks for your help!

Both those cards are very outdated, PCI can transfer alot more data per second than an ISA slot can. I guess it really all depends on what your happy with.

Well the most obvious reason would be that most modern boards have no ISA slots. So upgrading to a PCI will at least ensure you will have continued usage with a motherboard upgrade. Right now SCSI, especially used SCSI is so damned cheap, you would not do badly to upgrade the entire interface to at least Ultra Wide. You could probably pick up 2 9GB ultra wide hard drives and a controller with cables for around 100 dollars. Thats a pretty cheap SCSI facelift. :)

For that same $100, you can get a 60GB 7200RPM IDE drive that will smoke that setup. Upgrading outdated tech with less outdated tech is never a good idea unless there is some compatibility issue preventing you from using current tech. If you just want a PCI SCSI card for your drives, you can get an Adaptec 2906 for about $50 new.
