SCSI question, please help

My sister went out & bought a piece-of-sh*t HP computer with a 810 motherboard a while back. She has a HP ScanJet IIp SCSI scanner that came with an ISA SCSI card. I'm trying to find a PCI SCSI card that will work with this. I have no SCSI experience at all (I have built many systems, but never dealt with SCSI before), I know that there are different types of SCSI interfaces. I have no Ideal what type of interface this has (she lives across the state from me), all I know is the model # of the scanner & that is is about 7-8 years old. The HP website is no help.

Can anyone with SCSI experience let me know what type of connector I should look for and recommend an inexpensive PCI card for it?

EDIT: I believe that her SCSI card is a Symbios Logic 53C416 card.

birddog, you're looking for a SCSI card that has a 50 pin external connector. For a scanner you can go w/ just about any ISA or PCI card w/ a 50 pin external connector. It doesn't need to be fast, or bootable. Such a card would work fine for a CD-ROM and/or CD-RW unit too. Check out cards from iWill and Tekram for economical options, via PriceWatch.

OK, so I want a 50 pin adaptor card? I know I don't need a really fast card, I just didn't know what 'pin count' card I needed. Thanks.

Look at the connector on the scanner or the cable and see how many pins it has. This will tell you the kind of external connector you need.

Adaptec also has a cable selector which has handy. Look for it at adaptec.com.

thats my problem at the moment, I'm not sure what connector it has since I do not have the scanner in my possession.

If you don't have the scanner in your possession, you had better wait until you can verify what type of connector(s) it uses. Most use either a DB25 or a HD50, or both (my Canon FB1200S has both). If possible, you'll want to choose a card that will allow you to use the existing external cable, otherwise you'll have to plunk down another $15 or so on a compatible cable.

Just to clarify, am I correct that the 810 mobo doesn't have any ISA slots which is why you're needing a PCI SCSI card?

yea. She got suckered into one of those 'MSN' ripoff rebates. She ended up paying more for this hunk of junk than it would have cost me to build her a nice VIA apollo pro 133a system.

The 810 boards only have 4 pci slots, no ISA & no AGP. Real bad on-board video & sound.
