I have a Yamaha CRW8424SZ CD Writer and a Pioneer DVD 305S DVD-ROM connected to my Adaptec AHA-2940U2W SCSI Host adapter. Today, I encountered a strange problem. When I booted the computer, I could not get the SCSI BIOS to detect any of my SCSI devices (My SCSI devices are the Yamaha, Pioneer, and a Fujitsu hard disk). So I start disconnecting devices to see what is the problem. After disconnecting my Yamaha drive, the computer booted. Actually, I wasn't too surprised that the Yamaha failed because about a week ago, Windows started to complain that I had unsafely removed the drive from the computer. However, now my Pioneer drive doesn't work either. Windows detects it, and claims it is working properly, but when I insert a CD, it just spits it back out at me.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

this sounds like classic termination problems.
how is your chain terminated?
do any of the peripherals in the middle of the chain have a terimation jumper that is on?
is the boot hd scsi address 0?
these are the first things to check.
good luck
