i need some help here with my system

supermicro p4dce+
adaptec 2940 controller
pioneer 106s (id#2)
mylex 352 scsi u160 raid controller
18gig atlas 10k III hd

the layout of my motherboard is agp slot, then two 3.3v 64bit/66mhz pci slots, then 4 5v 32/33 pci slots

i have the mylex 352 in the second pci slot, and the 2940 in the 4th pci slot

my problem is that, it cannot boot off the cdrom to install windows xp. i have the boot options in the 2940 configuration right, to boot off id#2. i was told that i have to set the 2940 to scan the system or something to that extent, but theres no option for that.

what it says when booting up is:

-----------------------------
there is a bootable cdrom in your drive
the boot sections of your bootable cd rom are: 0

no bios installed!
-----------------------------

there is an option in the 2940 for support for int13 devices, but i've tried it enabled and disabled, both dont make a diff....

if you have any ideas, please respond

thanks

From what I can see from the log you posted, the BIOS of the SCSI card is not being loaded, hence you can not boot from it. It is interesting that your HDD is able to boot from it though. In any case, next time you boot, press CTRL-A to enter the BIOS of the 2940...under one of the options there, it will say something about load bios. make sure that is enabled...then try your cd again.

it has "enable host bios", i did have it enabled but it still did not boot off the cdrom

i disabled it, so now i dont get the no scsi bios message, but either way it does not boot off the cdrom

When that screen comes up that says "the boot sections of your bootable cd rom are: 0" does it just fly by it, or do you have a chance to hit the 0 key?

my boot order is scsi, scsi, floppy, other...

i tried cdrom first but didnt work, that only applies to ide opticals

when the screen says bootable section of cdrom is 0, it just flys by, i cant press anything....

i was wondering if a 29160 or a 19160 would solve the problem but not sure, i might just end up grabbing a plextor 40x burner.....

any other suggestions???
