My New Quatum (maxtor) 10K II 73 gig HD is seeming to have problems it has acted like it lost power for a second spun down and up again then this windows box comes up with a "F:/windows/prefetch problems writing data is lost please write it elsewhere this is caused by hardware failure or LAN failure." or something close to that. Then I got one said windows/system32/... yada yada loss writing data is lost please write it elsewhere this is caused by hardware failure or LAN failure. I just got this HD and it has a few days left on a replacement and 4yrs from maxtor.... CRAP it just happened again!!!!!

Check your termination as well. If this drive is the only device on the cable, make sure you have it connected to the last connector on the cable before the terminator (which should be at the very end).

Ok I switched the cable to the last one by the terminator. Also the powere molex connector was just a tad loose due to my 120mm suckhole touches the HD when I close my door on my windowed antec SX1040B. I'll let you all know who it works out.

I've had an old 30GB WD IDE drive that occasionally spun down then back up after a few seconds. I finally got tired of hearing it so I transferred the data from it an unplugged it. I should also mention the drive was louder than it should've been and ran warmer than normal - almost hot to the touch.
