SCSI Drive

Seagate OEM 73.4GB Cheetah 73 Ultra160 SCSI (NEW!)
10,000 rpm / 6.15ms Access Time / 80-pin
Manufacturer Part Number: ST173404LCV

I'm relatively new to SCSI, although I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable in computers, I don't use SCSI that much cause it was always so expensive to buy stuff! But will this drive plug into a hotswap backplane? If so, where can I get a system that would do SCSI RAID with at least 5 drives. I guess I would want RAID 5, but 0+1 might be OK too. Thanks!

Jesse

Yes, the LCV is an SCA drive, which will plug into a backplane (80-pin, single connector, no power connector as the power is provided by the SCA port).

You would need a 5-bay (or upwards) hot-swap caddy, and the requisite drives.
Do you have a SCSI HBA (Host Bus Adaptor) card already?

Any system can do SCSI RAID but usually only server mobos have the 64 bit/66MHz PCI slots you need for best host adapter performance. And not only are the drives pretty expensive, but SCSI RAID host adapters are pricey too. As another said, you would want a hot-swap cage for your drives. Most of those can be mounted in any case that has three free 5.25" drive bays (you may have to bend ears out of the way that are there to support individual drives).
. If you want someone else to build it for you, monarchcomputer.com et al. could do it. You can also get such things from Dell/HP/Compaq but you'd be stuck with the host adapter/drives/etc. that they stock.

Good SCSI sources:
hypermicro.com (may offer free ground shipping if you mention www.storagereview.com - check the SR site for the latest offer)
centrix-intl.com
pc-pitstop.com (offers PayPal as a payment option)
scsi4me.com (ditto)
etech4sale.com
and I can usually find stuff for low bucks on eBay.
