Hi, im using scsi in my pc, specificaly, an adaptec 19160 card and a 15k seagate hdd, i want a scsi cd-rom, i sourced a "wide" from plextor(there the only one that makes one) but i have absolutly no hope of getting one here in Australia(beleive me, i have 15 emails to & from plextor and there distributors), anyway i can get hold of another type from them here, but its a different type of interface,
this is what i wanted PX-40TSUWi and this is the type i can get PX-40TSi , what i need to know as the drive is oem, is what type of cable do i need to source to run this, as the one i wanted would of run on my exsisting cable which is the 68 pin.
Im sure this drive uses the 50 pin, but there seems to be scsi/scsi 2/and ultra scsi that use the 50 pin, this is where i got confused.

Any help on this matter would be much appeciated.

Why do Adaptec supply both outlets(68 & 50 pin) on the card ?, so u can use one or the other ?

What he meant to say was dont put them on the same chain. on my card I have 4 connectors (68-LVD, 68 Wide, 50 pin external, and 50 pin internal) I can use 3 out of the 4 chains.

A scsi chain will only run as fast as the slowest device on that chain (there are exceptions, depending on the SCSI Card). Thus if a 50 pin (20mb/s) is plugged into a 68 pin LVD (via adapter 80mb/s), all the LVD devices will run 20mb/s.

You will be fine...get a 50 pin internal ribbon cable, and hook that to the 50 pin internal on your card...all set!

IMO, the 68 pin internal lvd/se connector should really be used for hdds even though the card supports speedflex.
connect your other internal devices to the 50 pin connector!
