SCSI Cards

I just built a computer and forgot to include a SCSI card for my scanner. I cant take the old card out of the old computer cause my new computer doesn't have a ISA Slot. I need to buy a card that will do the job and not cost me much. The only slots I have open are PCI and an AMR (but that won't do any good). Therefor I need one for a PCI slot. I am running Win 98 on an Athlon 700 w/ the Asus K7V mobo. If you need to know anything else let me know.

What speed is your scanner? Fast? Wide? UltraWide?

I'm using a Tekram DC-390F UW adapter for my HP ScanJet 4p. Easy to install, very cheap at this point (I paid $45 for mine about a year and a half ago), and high quality.

I'd say that if you're planning on using the adapter for anything else (an UW burner, perhaps), get the 390F. Otherwise, there are cheaper Tekram models out there for lower-speed devices, such as your scanner. Probably cost you like $20.

A Tekram DC-315U is probably your best bet. You can find them for around $25 at online vendors (http://www.megahaus.com/ has it for $23 plus shipping). The DC-315U is a very good general purpose SCSI card for everything except hard drives. It's synchronous transfer rate maxes out at 20MB/sec which is more than sufficient for CD-ROM's, CD burners, scanners, etc. The external connector is an HD50 so be sure your existing cable will interface to the scanner.
