SCSI Card Help

Looking for a SCSI card to run several CD?s and CDR-W ?s. It has to be Windows XP compatible, bootable, and cheap.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I dont know of the other brands out, But Adaptec has several to choose from, Here are a few.
How many devices do you plan on connecting.
the Adaptec
1940 can support 7 devices scsi2/3
2940xx,2950xx and 29160 can support 7 scsi2/3 single ended or standard devices or 15 scsi3 Ultra or Ultrawide devices.
the Adaptec 3940xx,3950xx and 39160 can support 15 scsi2/3 single ended or standard devices or 30 scsi3 Ultra or Ultrawide devices, these are 2 controlllers per card and do snake 2 irqs.
I always wonder what happens when you have more then 26 drives, what lettters are used.
The xx's are references for standard, Ultra, Ultrawide or Ultra2Wide.

If your looking for ISA cards There is the Adaptec 1505 that can take 7 devices.
If your lucky to find and can afford a multiplexor you can really get up there on devices.

I leaning towards the 2940uw, looks like my best bet.

Was considering Iwills 2936uw or SIIG AP-20. Not much information available on these cards.:disgust:

Advancsys makes the chip set for the Iwill board, they may have gone by the wayside.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of drives you're planning on using, but to me a UW card seems like overkill for CD drives. I used a 2930cu to control Plextor CD-ROM and burner and never had any problems.

A Tekram DC-390U would be enough unless you need UW capability.

I've been using an old 2940W card that I pulled out of a P90 a while back under Win2k. Works excellent for burning and copying. I plan on adding a 4th drive to the chain when I get a case that has another 5.25" bay that doesn't hit the MB (on order). Currently it just has a queueing HD, DVD, and CD-rw drive. Look on the used market for some cheap cards.

I've got an SIIG SCSI card connected to my HP 5P scanner under Winders XP with no problem.

Just my $0.02.

tekram dc315u, good for cd's and only $26 or less. i am using it with my plextor 40x
and mo drive.
