SCSI and termination issues

I have a Tekram SCSI card with 2 internal scsi cdrom's and a tape drive hooked up externally. I recently added a scanner hooked up to the internal 50 pin cable with a 25 external to 50 pin internal adapter. Now, none of my scsi devices work. When I removed the cdrom drives, the scanner works, but the tape drive doesn't. I think I am having a termination issue. What exactly should be terminated? I know, I know, last drive, but what exactly does that mean in this case. Does having power to the device effect termination? Because I plan to use the tape drive and scanner only once a week, otherwise they will be off.

I have

cdrom (int) --> cdrom (int) --> scanner (int) --> tape drive (external)

Which Tekram card is this (Ultra 2 single channel?, U160 2 channel?, other?) Which connectors have what plugged to them?

Sounds like you have a "Y" (fork) in your scsi chain.

Power must be on to the TERMINATING device or else the chain won't work. This is one of the reasons that I'm much happier w/ my USB scanner than a SCSI one, since I don't use it very often. (BTW, it was ~$1.00 after rebate from HD forum)

I think what you describe is this:
Controller =====Tape Drive (w/ Termination)

CD 1

CD 2

Scanner (w/ Termination)

I'm not sure how the termination will work on a 25-pin device, when it's connected to a narrow chain like that. The more I look at this diagram, the more I think this might be an ID issue. CDs should be 5,6 Tape to 4, and scanner to 1,2, or 3.
