COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is back in the office after again taking a vacation without telling the lieutenant governor where he was.

Sanford spokesman Ben Fox would not say Tuesday where the governor was, except to say he's been off.

Last June, Sanford disappeared and then returned to the state to say he had been in Argentina visiting a woman he later called his "soulmate." Sanford and his wife, Jenny, divorced in March.

Fox says Sanford spent most of the Father's Day weekend with his four sons and just took Monday off.

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said Monday no one told him where the governor was. Fox says the office doesn't do that because Sanford remains in contact with staff.
Sanford is the gift that keeps on giving...

The guy is a lame duck and will be yesterdays news by December so does it really matter in the grand scheme of things if, as the story states, his staff was in contact with him? IIRC when he went AWOL last year even his staff had no clue where he was or how to reach him.

Edit: Not defending Sanford or his actions at all, just seems like more of a who cares story at this point to me.

I have to agree with Linflas, a year ago the guy was regarded as presidential timber by some, and now his political career is dead beyond any hope of any redemption. He will escape being jailed, all in all he is not a criminally terrible person like someone like Cunningham and that freezer guy Jefferson, so why should I join in any Sanford bashing contest. Like all humans, we have our flaws and Sanford has won his own Darwin award that ends his political career.

Maybe my democratic partisan problem is a lack of any ability to summon up any visceral hate for him. So I can say, in finest Rush Limbaugh logic, if Sanford is flawed, every Republican is flawed.

Read this this a.m. and was too embarrassed to post it, being from S.C.
Since he didn't win by one vote you're in the clear. Thank Heaven he didn't get to be president though. He was one of the people I thought might one day be president.

It's bad enough to have a president who votes "Present" - imagine having one who can't even be bothered to show up and do that!

He is a governor, does it really matter that much if he disappears for a day?

There aren't a lot of life or death type of decisions that must be made on a daily basis by a governor.

This would only be a problem if North Carolina decided to invade the state in his absence.

We voted to take the Upstate, Darlington (for the race fans), everything north of MB, and Charleston (including Kiawah Island, Folly's Beach and Sullivan's Island -- along with Francis Marion NF).

Georgia/Tennessee gets the rest --- including Barnwell, Clemson and Columbia.

I'll be damned if I'm getting sucked up by Georgia and you get the beaches. Breaking out the hardware.

I left you Hilton Head (and Myrtle Beach, proper)

What if we throw in a couple of golf courses and a former NC state Speaker of the House (currently doing time in Federal prison)? Better?

Oh. And we'll give you Clay Aiken and Fantasia, too :D

Wait - Clay Aiken and Fantasia are different people? I would have sworn Fantasia was just his name when he drags. Oh well, live and learn!
