Case: $265 is way too much. i'd go with the antec p180 or something cheaper (you'll save like $150 here)

PSU: fortron 450w ($50 USD)

CPU: X2 4200 ($200 savings maybe)

Motherboard: your's is fine but don't SLI. i'd just get it cause it's a stable motherboard

Memory: you're not OCing so you don't want the good stuff. get 2gb of value ram (either OCZ, Corsair, G.Skill, or other reputable manufacturer)

HDD: 250gb (or 400gb if you can afford it) Western Digital SE16. it's a SATA drive with 16mb cache and i believe the 400gb one is one of the fastest 7200 RPM drives around

GPU: $260 is a ripoff for a 6800GS. go with an eVGA 7800gt or get an ATI x1900xt. you have at least $350 in savings if you cut down on the case and cpu which can be applied to your video card budget. you can definitely afford the x1900xt

Optical: pay the extra money for a DVD burner. if you have a DVD-RW, you'll have no reason to have a separate dvd drive

what is your monitor btw? you don't want to be visually limited by it

The NEC is infereior to the BenQ 1640 sorry forgot to mention that, there's been so many of these threads recently i forget which ones i've noticed all the bits in.

I've got a 3540 and it's not bad, but they really do need the hacked firmware to be considered good.

Also, get the samsung floppy drive instead. Two of my friends and I have gotten the sony and it crapped on us, guess you can say we got some horrible luck but telling you just in case.

Or just skip the floppy, I can't remember the last time I used a floppy.

As long as you are running Windows XP, you still need a floppy for driver installation.
