SCROOGLED! Microsoft gets nasty with TV ads against GMail

Looks like Microsoft is tired of getting bullied by Google. They're blasting the airwaves with a new commercial about GMail "reading all of your email and spamming you."

Outlook.com IS a pretty nice mail system now, but wow, that ad is pretty brutal.

Now, they're going one step further over the line by using that same personal information to spam your inbox with ads that look like real emails.

I have a Gmaill account, Live.com account and outlook.com account. Gmail is by far my favorite. Who cares if they read my email? What are they going to do...send me an email? Guess what???? They filter my email for me!

There are red faces in Redmond after Edward Snowden released a new batch of documents from the NSA's Special Source Operations (SSO) division covering Microsoft's involvement in allowing backdoor access to its software to the NSA and others.

Documents seen by The Guardian detail how the NSA became concerned when Microsoft started testing Outlook.com, and asked for access. In five months Microsoft and the FBI created a workaround that gives the NSA access to encrypted chats on Outlook.com. The system went live in December last year – two months before Outlook.com's commercial launch.

I don't have expectations of privacy with any online activity. Because I have a brain. I also don't care, if someone read my messages there is nothing to read other than primarily technical information.

Now do I wish that online privacy existed in a real way? Sure. But it's not something that bothers me much simply due to the inherent connected nature of online activity. And Microsoft touting privacy is just too rich.

That said, free email is stupid and should be avoided from Google, Microsoft or anyone else.

I was forced into gmail long ago because hotmail had no spam filter and it was out of control. MS filter works well now and and I do dislike the new gmail promotion folder but I won't change yet.

I was one of the very early adopters of Gmail and I really like it. Who cares if they read my email or send me ads? I for sure don't. Plus its fun messing with the government. I made about 20 drafts with random words I know would set off the NSA sniffers. They still haven't knocked down my door yet.
