Scrolling Songs Affect Battery Life With iPod?

I am wondering if anyone knows if a long song title that has to scroll across the LCD screen on the iPod drains the battery more than a non-scrolling song? I guess this question is not constrained to an iPod but any portable LCD device with a battery.

I honestly doubt it.

It might use more of the processor to scroll, but I doubt if it affects battery life.

I dont see how the iPod attains 12 hrs of life (4th gen) or 8 hrs on the older ones and I could care less about the new ones....

The tests are leaving it on a huge playlist huh? I switch songs or scroll around (no backlight, no clicker) and I never feel like I get 12 hrs.

i'm worried that my battery is defective since my iPod is new and i dont get more than ~8 hours. my settings are for low battery consumption...no EQ, no backlight, i dont move around too much. i use mine like DLeRium and feel the same. i almost want to return this and get a different MP3 player. can i return this if i got it from the apple store?
