I have a Compaq 1275 laptop, works nice when power does get to it, but im tired of rigging it. For some reason I have to rig the plug in to pull all the way to the right (lots of tension to make it tight) before it will run correctly without a battery.

I took the laptop apart thinking that something might have come loose on the laptops end, but there wasnt. However, recently I read that it could possibly just be a faulty AC adapter, rather than my laptop. Any truth to this? I would really like to get this fixed so I can plant it in my truck.

Thanks, I will try and get a new one and see if that works. Any other suggestions are welcome as well.

the plug is just round on the inside, like a bullet shell, doesnt seem to be bent. The laptop has the pin that goes in the AC adapter.

My sister sat with the laptop on her lap (indian style) for hours so I am sure something got bent or pull to much in one direction or another.

It sounds more likely to the be the socket on the laptop, rather than the AC adaptor.

Possibly the pin in the laptop got bent or, more likely, the piece of spring-loaded metal that touches the outside of the adaptor plug has been bent and doesn't make contact with the plug.

The pin is not bent on the laptop, it is perfectly straight, and nothing is bent inside the laptop either.

Just noticed, from looking inside the end of the adpater plug, there are two pins on the sides, it might have something to do with those pins.
