Did you tell him the difference between c++ and java?

lol.. no I didn't (j/k).
Of course I did. However, I think he thought I was padding the resume and I never got a chance to respond 🙁.
As soon as he finished that answer about fixed-equity trading there was a knock on the door and he said thats it 🙁.
He seemed really tired as well and was clearly agitated even telling me that he had 8 interviews today multiple times.

Guess I'll have to clear it up with my follow up letter.

It was Deutsche bank, right?

I'm nearly positive they either asked you about fixed income trading or equity trading, not fixed equity trading 😉

The term "fixed equity" is an oxymoron btw

lol.. he was probally tring to see if I would catch it. How did you know BTW?

I interned at goldman this summer ... 🙂
Plus my roommate was doing ibanking at DB, so I figured that's where you were going when you asked for subway directions the other day.

What sort of degree does your friend have?

He's getting a BBA ....3.9 gpa @ Michigan Business School

I honestly don't think you screwed up the interview, assuming your depiction was accurate and complete. If they were only interested in developers with a strong investment/finance background, they wouldn't have brought you in in the first place.

Don't sweat it. You'd be surprised how many interviewers use that time to just pound their chest a little bit. Oftentimes, when you're interviewing for multiple people, one or more of them really has no pull in whether or not you get the job... someone just tossed them a cookie and let them talk to you so they could feel important. I know that sounds a little childish, but I've seen it quite a bit and it's not uncommon. If you aced the first two and dropped the ball on relatively unrelated material in the third, I'd say you're just fine.

Just got a voicemail from the company telling me to call back (just tried but got his voice mail)... calling to say thank your for coming or is it PROFIT??? Will update when I find out more...

It is easier to say sorry we're not interested in a voice mail. They either have more hoops to jump through or you got the job. I am betting it is positive.

Yeah, they probably would have blown you off in the voicemail if you were out of the running.

if he's straight out of school, the going rate at DB is 55K + some signing

Oh yeah to explain the fixed equity trading thing,
equity trading means holding stocks for dividents and capital gain (the return can vary significantly)... there are all kinds of crazy funds for that. Fixed income refers to bonds and derivatives where you receive fixed coupon over the lifetime of the instrument.

So thats why "fixed-equity" is an oxymoron > equity means common stocks with voilatile return, fixed means you're getting a preset amount back.....

Why, is that stuff not real? Id that is teh case, then that is pretty funny.

I remember when i had an interview at Analog Devices. One of the guys asked me how to make an oscilator (sp?). I told him that you to just hook the signal up to an inverter and loop it back. he asked if I was sure, I said yeah. he said I was wrong. You can't have an oscilator with one inverter. he said it had to have more than 1 and an odd number to be an oscilator. Later that day, i had my VLSI class, and low and behold, we talked about ocsilators, and what does my professor say? "The simplist osciltor has one inverter". I told him what the guy at Analog Devices told me and he just told me "that's why we need stupid people, so you can be thier boss and correct their mistakes".
