lol... I remember another thread about how NewEgg screwed this other guy because they sold him a HDD that wasn't supposed to be sold in the US and WD or Maxtor refused to RMA it. Things are getting kinda shady over there.
How exactly is it shady? MS doesn't support OEM software. IIRC, Newegg made good on the HDD immediately after being informed of the problem, the poster hadn't even tried to contact them before posting the thread. Did you even read this thread?
ms aren't saying they won't support it because it's OEM, they are saying that won't support it because support isn't availible for said product in the country it was sold in. to me that's a little shady. if they had said "sorry we don't support oem software" it'd be a different thing altogether. i do realize that they don't support oem software (like many software vendors) but this is the second time newegg has been caught selling merchandise that apparently wasn't meant for sale in the U.S. perhaps that's how they offer such great prices? don't know, don't care. as long as newegg is willing to support their customers, i'll vote for lower prices.
That's just a canned, automated response. Try calling them and telling them you need support for OEM software and they will tell you it's not supported.
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. It is not meant for the typical consumer. If you're buying OEM operating systems you ought to know what you're doing. One of the basics with OEM MS OSs is that they don't provide customer support. Like onelin0 said, it's cheaper for a reason.
As for Newegg, their service has been flawless for me for over 40 orders for hundreds of parts in the past 2 or 3 years. I have never received grey market products or something that wasn't exactly as advertised. This includes numerous re-furbed items.
I would also add that in over 10 mainboards (2 refurbed) and 12 or so sticks of ram I have never received DOA product. I really feel for Newegg when someone is slapping together a computer for the first time and it seems like every part they receive is DOA. I know it happens sometimes that a products is DOA but odds point to the user more often than not. And they used to pay for RMA shipping but with so many customers, er, in over their heads, they probably just couldn't afford it anymore and still keep their very lenient RMA policy.
As for their CC validation, it's a problem with the CC vendor and/or the information you provided like your address or name or exp date. To their credit, Newegg is pretty vigilant about only shipping to authorized addresses, etc. The only problem I've had is when I tried to ship to a different address that wasn't verified with my CC company. A 5 minute phone call fixed the problem, they even conferenced in my CC company.
