Had a bet with a buddy of mine who would make a higher percent on their portfolio. He made a little under 8%, I made 28.97%. Woot!

Yes, in any one year, many funds and individuals will outperform the S&amp;P 500. Over time, most of them will not.

Plus, if you buy and hold an S&amp;P 500 mutual fund or ETF, you can ignore it for the next 20 years, instead of trying to time the buying and selling of individual stocks.

I'd much rather read a book, watch a movie, play a game or even nef here than spend time managing stocks, but I realize some people do enjoy it.
