It seems to be a truck thing.

My Dakota doesn't have a device to automatically throw the hood up, but once you unlatch it and throw it up, it stays up.

A Plymouth car I had years back, required a rod to keep the hood up.

Big hood = springs
Small hood = no springs
Silverado hood > Honda hood

Ever take the hood off a truck? Those things are big!

Also, broke the torsion rod on the tailgate my '76 Suburban. Tailgates don't seem all that substantial until you have to lift them without the spring. Installing a new rod was kind of interesting, trying to balance the weight of the gate and trying to keep the rod from springing forth into my skull or chest.

2 things..

1- It is definitely Chevys fault that Honda designed it this way.
2- ATG?

well, since you open the hood to repair a chevy so often, they thought they would make it nicer. no need to routinely open a honda hood.

Chevy hood is too heavy to hold up while you try to get the prop in the hole...

How do you hit yourself on a hood? And auto hood opening? So there is no latch? That doesn't seem right. I haven't ever had a car that didn't have a latch.

How could you not feel constant resistance w/o a spring or strut loaded hood? How did you ever get the time to 'peer' in? it's not like it stays up until you're not looking and whacks you. Gotta call idiot on this one.:p

I'm still pissed that my Chevy has no tranny dipstick, wow, they must have saved a whopping $3 per unit with that brilliant idea..
