This is true as well.
I just learned today that the square headed screw precedes the Phillips and that is was invented by a Canadian.
As to stripped Phillips screws, I've ran across just as many or MORE destroyed slotted screws in my day. But if you used a GOOD Phillips bit (Snap-On being one) you are much less likely to screw up a Phillips head screw than a slotted screw, even using a good bit.
