I mentioned this earlier but it did not seem to make your list of TBS games; I really think you should include age of wonders series (shadow magic seems to be the best of the lot). Very popular TBS; still a very active community.

Did anyone mention Alone in the Dark? (The original DOS game)
I jumped out of my seat a few times playing that as a kid... Good times...

Quake II and III for me. I was late to PC gaming so didn't play too much Doom or Quake I. UT2k4, Far Cry, Doom 3...

I liked the very first doom; doom 3 was kind of a let down. Nothing really new with it. Quake 4 was a let down for the same reason (the real problem i had with doom 3 and quake 4 is after half-life I expected to be able to interact with the environment; this of course expanded with games like far cry and half life 2; but with doom 3 and quake 4 not really much interaction at all; just run and gun.

Crysis. Groundbreaking visuals, mechanics and general gameplay. As fun today as it was at first release.

Too bad it crashed like a mofo :( I never got to finish the game.

Community patches make it 100% playable. I played it very soon after it came out....crash here or there, but it was so worth it.
In regards to Vampire Bloodlines.

VTMB was weird for me. I couldn't play it when it first came out, due to crashes. Community patches solved nothing.
6 years after release I gave it another go. Didn't install any community patches. Had minimal issue. Think it crashed once or twice on 1 of the final bosses, but was able to finish regardless. Decent game, no big complaints about it.

After I finished it, I put it up for trade, expecting not to get offer of much more than $25, if I'm lucky. After some mad retarded low-ball offers, and patience. I got an offer of $40, very cool, surprised it retained that much value over time.

Syndicate was an awesome game. I remember playing the same missions over and over again, with a different tactic to win each time.

My favorite was the mission where you were to kill a guy in an armored motorcade. I found that he always stopped at the same spot each time for maybe 30 seconds before moving on, so I dropped 3 time bombs in that spot and when he rolled over them he died. I walked away like nothing happened :)

Also getting a huge persuadotron army was awesome.

Wasn't much a fan of Syndicate. I found it a bit more tedious to play than I was accustomed to. I can see where it had it's pros, but wasn't really my type of game.
I still have it around here somewhere... Only because I can't find anyone who wants it.

It is about 20 years old now. I still have mine too, but you need to run it in DosBox, which isn't the greatest. I would love to see it redone, and we may see it redone soon for a console based on some rumors. (I won't get it for a console, since I don't have any, and I coudlnt' imagine the gameplay working well with a controller)

Morrowind
Baldurs Gate 2
Diablo 2
Dragon Age: Origins
Deus Ex

Hmmm....I guess I like RPGs. I actually thought I was an FPS fan before I started making the list.

The original "Wasteland", from the late 1980's... the father of the Fallout series. I've got it on the "Interplay" Anthology, but it's a DOS program, and I've been scared of getting into all that DOSBOX stuff.

DosBox isn't anything to be scared of. It's the greatest invention in the past 10 years : p

I'm more into Simulation/RTS stuff so I will add a few that I feel have ruined my life.

1. Rollercoaster Tycoon Series. (I know it all came from Theme Park which I owned for Genesis but the RT series just kept on trucking. Anyways I have played them all to death and can conclude that RT3 is the best so far.

2. Nascar Racing 2003. This game was a revolution in pc racing games and rarely ever gets its due.

3. Blackthorne A very remarkable Blizz/Interplay game that I remember quite fondly.

4. Lemmings. A true PC classic

5. World in Conflict. A truly remarkable RTS with a great multiplayer team aspect and innovative drop in swith roles style gameplay.

6. Evil Genius. This game is truly remarkable and it pains me to read PC Gamer because I know there staff probably spent 0 hours giving this game a try. While the game does start off a little slow and needs a few patches to truly enjoy it, this game has the dungeon keeper game play and James Bondesque story as well. Honestly, go on steam and buy this game!

7. Command and Conquer Red Alert. Not much to say, my favorite in the series.

8. Interstate 76. A fun twisted metal style car game that barely gets a nod anymore. This game blew your mind away and eased your pain after dropping $300 on your new Intense 3D voodoo card.

There's been rumors going around of rebooting the franchise, but that's as far as it's gotten.

Team Fortress Classic... It was the first competitive online game that I ever got into. If you found a good server you had an awesome community and familiar faces to play with every night. Clan matches with the trusty 56k was also pretty awesome... I think I put more time into this game than any other single game, other than WoW, but that is a whole different story as WoW can unfortunately become a lifestyle and not a game... lol

I played TF2 and liked it a little, but to me it just doesn't live up to TFC in any possible way and is just not captivating at all... Unfortunately I think I would love it if I hadn't loved TFC more than any other game... I just hyped up the idea of TF2 on my own and it never really lived up to my hopes and expectations.

amen, brotha...TFC is great and TF2 just never got there.

Most of mine have been brought up before (Homeworld, Deus Ex, SimCity, Unreal Tournament), but I didn't catch one that I squandered a year (and many, many more hours since) of college on: Egosoft's X-series.

-Pirate Argon Nova, X3: Terran Conflict

I don't think I've ever quite reached that same sense of accomplishment in a game as I have when, after hours of trading, smuggling, and jumping pirate ships, I finally managed to afford my very own solar power station.

I have other games, but I'm going with Day of the Tentacle since it is unlikely to have been mentioned and I don't want to look through the whole thread. Very funny, when games were less about the gee-whiz factor nor ports from consoles.

250px-Day_of_the_Tentacle_artwork.jpg

EDIT: After reading the thread, it did get mentioned. Coming from a time when I used to rule in Quake2 (if you remember someone who was crazy with the grenade launcher, that may have been me) I have trouble getting into modern games. I also played on the original DOOM server, which was ground breaking at the time. I bought ME2 and my system runs everything maxed so it's pretty and all, just couldn't get into it.
