Rules: List ONE game that you want in our theoretical 'top 100 games list'. It doesn't have to be your favorite game of all time, there is no order to the list ( there's no rank, just a compilation).

Tell us why you chose the game, post a screenshot if you want, tell us your experience with the game, and convince us why you want it on the list!

PC games only, if you don't like the idea, stay out :D

I will start:

Game #1 -

Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl

One of my favorite titles of all time, it has been replayed countless times, with varying mods along the way.

Not many games have launched with so many bugs, incompatibilities and other issues than Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl did back in 2007. I remember launching the game every five minutes (after a crash) just so I could play for five more minutes. Eventually all the bugs were worked out with multiple patches, and Stalker became one of the greatest FPS/RPG games of all time.

Touting uncountable numbers of mods, and graphics packs, SOC had the replayability of an MMO, all while giving us the greatest atmosphere that any game has created to date.

Stalker SOC will be remembered for its bugs, but more so for it's profound effect to immerse the gamer in a hopeless but mystical world of the 'zone'.

" Get out of here Stalker! "

Diablo 2,

With its interesting class design, randomized maps and loot it remains one of my most played games of all time.

Psychonauts

Platformer with a good story, interesting and unique characters, and excellent dialog.
Had a lot of unique areas and such and was a fun and funny game. It is a game that I think many look pass due to its cartoony graphics, but it is worthy of going along Shafer's other great titles.

Global Agenda

A futuristic mmo-fps (with jetpacks!) that could have become a mainstay in the competitive shooter community if it didn't have an identity crisis. Actual 10v10 gameplay is the funnest I have ever played.

Great additons everyone!

Can't help it, I'm doing another one.

Sins of a Solar Empire

A surprisingly good title from a small developer, Sins of a Solar Empire is the best RTS that I've ever played. Some matches can be as short as a few hours, others can last hundreds of hours, it's your call.

Expansion packs Diplomacy, and Entrenchment build on the remarkable first game, this is a PC game through and through, and one of the main reasons to game on the PC platform.

The original "4x" game that gave birth to the grand strategy genre we know today.

Countless hours upon hours lost to trying to just take over planets with my massive ground invasion forces of the Bulrathi, or stealing all the latest techs as the Darloks.

Team Fortress Classic... It was the first competitive online game that I ever got into. If you found a good server you had an awesome community and familiar faces to play with every night. Clan matches with the trusty 56k was also pretty awesome... I think I put more time into this game than any other single game, other than WoW, but that is a whole different story as WoW can unfortunately become a lifestyle and not a game... lol

I played TF2 and liked it a little, but to me it just doesn't live up to TFC in any possible way and is just not captivating at all... Unfortunately I think I would love it if I hadn't loved TFC more than any other game... I just hyped up the idea of TF2 on my own and it never really lived up to my hopes and expectations.

Games I feel are amazing, but are often underrated and belong on this list:

Black and White (not the 2nd, which was absolute garbage)

Warhammer: Dark Omen (really fun if you were into the TT version as well)

Heroes of Might and Magic series (particularly 2 and 3)

Populous: The Beginning

More I can't think of :(

If you have to ask, you either weren't playing games during the MS-DOS days, or you weren't into flight sims.
The manual itself was thicker than most college text books. Still proud to have it and the box in perfect condition on my shelf. :)

Doom

The game that set the standards that all others were judged by.

Deus Ex.

Do I really need to explain?

Yes, you do need to explain. Did Deus Ex bring anything new to the gaming world? Does Deus Ex have a popular munti-player side like counter-strike or left 4 dead. Did Deus Ex introduce new technology like Quake did with built in TCP/IP for internet gaming? Did Deus Ex introduce people to a 3D environment like what Doom and Quake did?

The OP asked for 1 game, so the rest were removed.

Duke Nukem Forever - because it introduced the bad boy / good boy hero type.

For a game to be on my top list, it had to introduce something new to the gaming world. Whether it was story plot, built in TCP/IP, moving environment, interactive environment,,,,,,. And I think Duke introduced something new.

Dragon Age Origins is probably the most amazing RPG i've ever played. I'm poopsocking the game right now. The ability to use preset tactics is amazing.

System Shock 2. While Doom/Doom II did it first, system shock was the first game to make me truely jump (the first time one of those robot guards came across my path).

GTR 2
4851475.jpg

After years of playing gran turismo, CMR, toca, etc. I fire up this game and and it throws in into a cockpit view thats loud and brutal, it actually felt like a race car. The amount of visual and aural feedback it gave you was immense. I could tell when the rear was losing grip, when I was udnersteering, when I had locked up a front brake, if I had overcooked a corner.

Games like GT5 and F1 2010 talk about revolutionary features like a day and night cycle and dynamic weather. GTR2 had all of that more than 4yrs ago and had it down perfectly. You couldn't drive slowly in the wet or your tires would lose temperature and you would have even less grip, you couldn't go around running into people cause you wouldn't have lights when the sun set. I could go on, but I think thats enough.

Honestly, the only single player game I could stand recently is Fallout 3, game was great, loved the atmosphere, same goes for New Vegas, GREAT game.

Otherwise Bad Company 2 has rocked my boat...along with Vietnam.

Let's see, Diablo 2 was already covered. I'd add Diablo, but that seems a little redundant. So, I'll go with:

StarCraft

The sequel is great, too, but I know I'll never play as many hours of it as I did with the original.

Age of Empires I/II/III!

One of the founding fathers of the modern day RTS and the one that continued to revolutionize! Never gets old!
