I think this is the first time I have ever used it being too damn cold as a reason not to go to class. If I drive, there is a good chance my 10 year old truck will die (in fact, with how it has been running, it is certain). If I walk, it is close to half a mile. I was out last night and froze after 200 yards.

Just go back inside for a few minutes and global warming will take care of the rest.
 
They'ev closed almost all the schools in the area here due to the cold.

It's only -2F (at the moment) -20F wind chill.

pssssft... I had to walk to school in 6 feet of snow, -50F wind chills, up hill, barefoot, both ways. 😛

Well... that's what I tell my son at least. lol
 
It's a balmy -18 F here in the Minneapolis area today. We might even get above 0 for a high temp.

Where are all those global warming freaks now?:laugh:
 
Pansy. I had go outside to catch the school bus when it was -83F years ago. No, that's not one of the "uphill to school both ways" stories your grandfather likes to tell, either.

The radiator on my car was shot, and we were also out in that weather later trying to change it. It was so cold the hoses wouldn't stretch over the fittings, and we had a space heater blowing hot air through a metal "box" that directed it up through the engine compartment to try and keep our hands from freezing and to allow the hoses to stretch.

Figures that of all the places in the valley, I wound up living in the "cold pocket."

my face hurt after crossing campus today coming home from PT at 0730. it's probably a good half mile to cross campus. but i dunno, i can't judge distances worth a damn.

Don't worry. I went to a UW school (Eau Claire), you can be confident at least half of your class will be doing the same thing...if not the profs themselves.

They have stated they won't close it here regardless of temperature, only if the ice fog is bad enough that there are too many accidents, or the roads are too slick to safely drive.

I'm in Florida now, moved here from Denver within the last month, and lived in frigid Wisconsin and other midwestern states most my life. I can attest that a humid and windy 40F (I work on the beach) is equally miserable to a dry -15F windchill.
 
I walked a mile or so his morning in -1 F, -20 F with windchill to get get to school. I have some good cold weather gear so it wasn't too bad.
 
Bah ... welcome to winter 😛 This is nothing we don't deal with for 5-6 months of the year.
