Screenshots of video files?

I'm trying to take captures in jpeg format for specific parts of some music videos in mpeg format using hypersnap and windows media player. What I try to do is fast forward to a specific part of the video and then capture that part with hypersnap into a jpeg file. All I get is a black image though. Anyone know how to do it?
Do I have to turn off hardware acceleration for it or something? If so, how do I do that in Windows XP?

Yes, you could turn off hardware acceleration for your overlay--but hypersnap should be able to grab it. Have you read the instructions? I think you have to enable direct X capture, and hit a specific key.

Yes, I enabled DirectX overlay capture in HyperSnap and when I press Scroll Lock, which is the default key for capturing overlays, it takes a screen shot of the whole screen but not the actual video. So, it's basically not working... or I'm doing something wrong.

Hmm.. I got it to work finally..

Even with directx and overlay capture enabled in HyperSnap, it wouldn't work. So, I took the "overlay" option off in Windows media player and it worked.
