screensaver problem

i am getting a illegal operation box when using 3d pipes screensaver. i just didnt a clean install (this machine i built is for a friend). its not that big of a deal, but i think there is something going on because he just called me and said that when he tries converting files off a cd to .wav format the computer locks up. anyway i am running win 98se, what could the problem be???
 
it isnt for me so win2k isnt appropriate. also this was a clean install, do you really think that it is screwed up and needs a format/reinstall??? i mean the build has only be on the computer for 5 days
 
the resolution on 3d pipes was turned to maximum, when i turned it down it worked fine and took the errors away, got me............
