Screen shakes.

My monitor screen shakes noticeably, especially in Internet Explorer. The monitor is sitting on the desk and the CPU/power supply is on a floor stand. The distance between the monitor and CPU is about 3 feet.
1) What makes a screen shake?
2) I added two 80mm case fans, one on the back (exhaust) and one on the side (intake) that blows air to the hard disk. Can these be the cause? If so, what can I do?

Firstly, I dont think the added requirements due to the fans will affect your monitor since it does not get power from the PSU. Are all your components plugged into a surge protector? If so, it may be faulty. Or your wall outlet may be so. If it is not to much trouble, try changing surge protectors.

...Or try adding a UPS; it "conditions" your power and provides a clean and consistent flow of current.

well, degaus won't do anything cuz all that does is to demagnetize the monitor...let's say you accidently put unshielded speakers too close to the monitor..uh-oh...degauss will get rid of the discoloration...

since IE has a lot of white...chk ur refreshrates....maybe it's a bit too high or low?...85 is optimum for most monitors...if not, 75..
there's also monitor temp options....mess w/ those too...

 
Thank you all for the helpful comments. Dan's suggestion was most helpful. I found that the monitor was set at 60Hz vertical. The choices I have are 60 to 120. I first changed it to 75. Screen shaking got slower in motion but larger in amplitude. Then I changed it to 70 Hz. It seems to be the right setting.

I didn't even know refresh rate is something that I must optimize. I have never done that on any of my monitors. Should I adjust horizontal refresh rate, too?

u can try downloading powerstrip...do a google search for the program...it's a free program (although i think they make u pay for the extra features, but u don't need them)...

i tried to find this monitor test program called nokia tools or something like that...both will help you optimize your monitor....having a lot of white and shaking sounds also like ur color temp settings....
