This is bugging me. Like most of you, I tweak my monitor to utilize every single millimeter of space; I paid for a 19" monitor, I want to use every bit of it, right? Right.

Here's what happens; about every third or fourth time I reboot (doesn't matter if the systems been running for two days or two hours.) the desktop "creeps". The screen will be either slightly shifted left, right, up, down or it'll be "bigger". I.E. the edges of the screen will be widened past the screens viewable point.

The monitor is new (2 weeks). It's a Micron MX900. Sony FD Tube. It didn't exhibit this behaivor at 1024 x 768 x 32 at 100Hz. It started when I went to 1168 x 864 x 32 at 100Hz. My monitor will "do" this res, so I know I'm not overdriving it or anything.

Any suggestions?

Could an old monitor driver still be present on your system and causing a conflict?

Whenever I have weird problems of changing resolutions I look for any old drivers and references to old monitors and remove them.

1. Remove all monitor inf files from windows/inf/other section
2. Unzipped the old and new drivers and manually searched Windows directory for those files and removed them.
3. Run regclean or other registry cleaner.
3. Boot to safe mode and remove all monitors listed in Device Manager.

Upon relaunch, I would reinstall the new monitor drivers.
