Screen protectors for LCD TVs?

pontifex

Lifer
My dad just bought a new 40" LCD HDTV. My niece and nephew (4 and 2 years old) are always at the house and they have colored on the existing CRT TV with crayons, have touched/poked the screen many times, and have even wiped food on the screen.

I'm very worried worried about the LCD screen being damaged.

Anyone have or recommend some sort of screen protector for an LCD TV?

wall mount so the bottom is at least 4 feet above the ground. place barrier/furniture in front to keep them away

i don't think there exists any screen protector that can ward off the havoc wreaked by little kids. i'm gonna second the mounting option. besides, any screen protect of that size is probably going to cost as much as mounting the screen anyway.

I think this is the best option.

In this avsforum post someone looked into screen protects and said it would cost $500 for one 😱. He wound up getting a 1/8"-thick piece of lexan to cover the screen. I can't imagine what that would do to the PQ. However, if the guy isn't willing to wall-mount it or educate the kids about not getting near it (and hope for the best), then maybe the lexan is the best option.

I have a 1yo son. I'm going to wall-mount my plasma with the bottom of the screen about 40" off the floor with an entertainment center in front of it. I'm going to teach my son to never approach that area and hope it works. Also, throwing things is not allowed except outside or in his room. Hopefully I don't post on here in a couple years about my busted plasma screen and how I wished I had stuck some bullet-proof glass in front of it 😛.

I doubt he'll be willing to wall mount it.

wonder what he'd say after a crayon line goes across his tv😛

put that in front of the tv zone😛

any film you put on top of a screen is going to mar its clarity some. esp over such a large area.

I found one for about $150 and another for about $280. yeah, not cheap.

just wall mount it, its really the only option, any type of protector will lower the PQ. And wall mounts arnt as expensive as they used to be.

Teach the kids not to do that? I would have gotten smacked for pulling such a stunt. My parents had various front projection tvs from before I was born until the late 90's. Talk about the perfect canvas.
